Finals
Results.
American Bullriders Tour Finals held March 13th & 14 Kicked off the First
performance with a special
tribute to the brave men and women of our
armed forces. Despite the current economic environment Bull riding fans showed
up from all over to watch a weekend jam-packed with excitement.
Cory Atwell after just winning the IPRA World Title in OK. City. came to the ABT
Finals with a broken arm that required surgery 10 days prior to the finals.
Atwell arrived at the finals with a commanding lead for the National Title over
last years Champion Brian Tipton who recently suffered a broken collar bone.
Unable to get on his bull, the question was whether Atwell could hold off new up
and coming rookie cowboy Josh Johnson for the National Title.
Dedicated bull riding fans were
thrilled to see famous bucking bull GIT-ER-DONE owned by comedy man LARRY THE
CABLE GUY. Friday night the infamous "GIT-ER-DONE" bucked off Allen Pipen and
then came back Saturday night only to take JoJo Sullivan to a second place win
in the short go-round. which ultimately helped him secure the average at the
finals.
ABT/IFR qualifier Shane Barratiere gave "cowboy-up" a new meaning with his
exciting ride on Red Velvet to win the long go round in Saturday nights
performance but, then Ken Treadway's rank bucking bull "Acid Rain" sustained his
"un-ridden record" thru out both performances throwing Barratiere in the Short
round Saturday night.
ABT/ IFR cowboy John Leinaweaver of Gettysburg. PA. made an outstanding ride
during Friday nights performance
to split second and third on "Spotted
Demon". Leinaweaver was not as fortunate when #62 "The Joker" dusted him in the
short. round.
Former IPRA World Champion Josh Reid was back with a vengeance to win Saturday
nights short round on "Strawberry Wine". After 65 head of bulls were bucked and
all the points tabulated Corey Atwell went home with another Championship on his
belt. Able to hold off all contenders, Corey Atwell is the new National
Champion!
JoJo Sullivan of Buckhead Ga. won the Finals average buckle and was the
high money winner for the weekend.
Steve Pennell was voted to win the Sportsmanship Award.
Up and coming young bull rider Josh Johnson won ROOKIE OF THE YEAR.
